ABOUT ALAJ
Like brush strokes to a canvas, my mind, heart and spirit are forged in music. -- Marley aka Alaj, Long Island, NY.
For as long as I can remember, sound always captured me. Whether it was the score of a film, drums of a riddim, the leaves swaying in the breeze, or the sound of a bus braking. I would find myself in a trance wondering why this [sound] connected with me. To be honest, I fell in love with sound before I even picked up a pen. I took my love for writing along with the knowledge and understanding of music learned from my father, with the strengths and struggles of our people instilled in me by my mother, and began writing and composing music of my own. I wanted my compositions to bring me to a world beyond the physical. Often finding myself alone, I was able to hone my skills; finding myself liberated from the chains of the tangible realm. I then realized my purpose on this earth is to educate and elevate the minds of all, especially our youth. On February 11, 2020 I released my first project, Vol. 1: Navy Blues. This album allowed me to share my world with you all, which wasn't easy for me. But that day, that release made every project after easier to share with you all. I want to thank my people for supporting my journey through my ups and downs. I learned that this isn't just music, it's a movement. Appreciate the life you've been given and the opportunities that come with it. You never know what the universe has planned for you. Life, love & positive vibrations, created by God and designed for us. Stay blessed my people and please enjoy and spread the energy. Love and peace to all.
